Linen Stitch Hair Bandana

This free crochet linen stitch hair bandana pattern showcases the beautiful and versatile linen stitch. These bandanas work up quick making them easy makes for gifts and markets and colorful accessories to your wardrobe. While the pattern provides sizes and gauge as helpful guidelines, feel free to experiment with different yarn weights and hook sizes to achieve your desired size. Size modifications are given at the end of the pattern.

Materials:
DK Weight Yarn such as Knit Picks Brava Sport
Size H 5mm crochet hook for body / 4.5 mm hook for ribbing
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Gauge:
20 stitches / 20 rows = 4 in /10 cm in linen stitch
Finished Size:
20" width / 10" Height
Abbreviations:
ch: chain
sc: single crochet
sp: space
sl-st: slip stitch
st: stitch
Linen Stitch Hair Bandana Instructions:
For color pattern shown in photo, change colors every 2 rows.
Bandana:
Row 1: ch 2, in 2nd ch from hook (sc, ch 2, sc), Turn. [2 sc sts]
Row 2: ch 1, sc in 1st sc, ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) into ch-2 sp, ch 1, sc in last sc. Turn. [4 sc sts]
Row 3: ch 1, sc in 1st sc, ch 1, sc in ch-sp, ch 1 (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, ch 1, sc in next ch-sp, ch 1 sc in last sc. Turn. [6 sc sts]
Row 4: ch 1, sc in 1st sc, ch 1, *sc in next ch-sp, ch 1; repeat from * to ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch-2 sp, ch 1, *sc in next ch-sp, ch 1; repeat from * to last st, sc in last st. Turn. [8 sc sts]
Repeat Row 4 until there are 36 rows total, as shown in photo, or to desired length. [2 sc sts increased per row].
Do not fasten off. Continue for straps.
Straps:
Ch 41 for the first strap, sl-st in the second ch from the hook and in each ch across. Sc across the top of the bandana working one stitch into the end of each row to the other side. Ch 41 for the second strap, sl-st in the second ch from the hook and each ch across, slip stitch back into the corner stitch of the bandana. Strap length can be adjusted by adding or removing chains.
Finishing:
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Size Alterations:
It is recommended to make the base of the triangle approximately 1-2 inches less than the actual head circumference to allow for stretching and tying. For a more custom fit, measure the base of the bandana and adjust the rows accordingly. Rows may be added or removed for larger or smaller heads.
