Once we have gathered our materials, I will demonstrate a very simple cast on technique, which is the foundation of any knitting project. This step is crucial, as it sets the stage for all the stitches that will follow. After mastering the cast on, we will move on to the knit stitch, one of the two fundamental stitches in knitting. I will show you how to execute this stitch using both the continental and English styles, allowing you to choose the method that feels most comfortable for you. Following the knit stitch, we will explore the purl stitch, which is equally important and often used in combination with the knit stitch to create various patterns and textures.

As we progress, I will also teach you how to create two basic types of knitted fabrics: garter stitch and stockinette stitch. Garter stitch is achieved by knitting every row, resulting in a squishy and textured fabric that is perfect for beginners. On the other hand, stockinette stitch is created by alternating between knit and purl rows, producing a smooth and flat surface that is commonly used in many knitting patterns. You will learn how to recognize the differences between these two stitches and how to identify knits and purls in your work after they have been made, which is an essential skill for any knitter looking to read patterns and troubleshoot their projects.

By the end of this video, you will have a solid understanding of the foundational techniques in knitting, equipping you with the skills to start creating your own beautiful knitted items. So grab your yarn and needles, and let’s embark on this exciting knitting adventure together!
