This heart granny square is a delightful variation of the classic granny square design, which has been cherished in the world of crochet for generations.

The heart shape is created by alternating colors within a single round. This tutorial will provide detailed photos and instructions on how to change colors during the round, along with a step-by-step video guide.

Additionally, the heart granny square can serve various purposes, from being a standalone decorative piece to being incorporated into larger projects such as blankets, pillows, or even garments. The versatility of this design means that it can be adapted for different occasions, such as Valentine's Day, anniversaries, or simply to brighten up a living space.

Materials

Yarn

Tapestry Needle

Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

sl: slip

sp: space

st: stitch

Changing Colors:

To change colors in a double crochet you will begin with the current color, yarn over and insert into the stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, then yarn over with the new color and pull through the last 2 loops with the new color.

Color changes in Round 3 can be done by either cutting the yarn each time the color is changed and weaving in the ends, by carrying the alternate yarn color underneath the stitches as they are worked, or by pulling the yarn strands across the back of the square to the next color change spot. These options are all personal preferences and depend on which one you find most comfortable and the overall look of the square you wish to achieve.
