Granny Stitch Shawl - Free Pattern

This simple crochet shawl pattern uses the granny stitch. The shawl can be made with any size yarn or hook. The sizes and gauge given are a guideline.

Materials:
Worsted or DK weight yarn
Size I (5.5mm) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Gauge:
14 stitches / 8 rows = 4 in /10 cm in double crochet
Finished Size:
Make it to any size
Abbreviations (US Terms)
ch: chain
dc: double crochet
sp: space
st/sts: stitch/stitches
Granny Stitch Shawl Pattern Instructions:
Shawl body
Row 1: ch 4, working in the 4th ch from the hook, (2dc, ch 2, 3 dc). Turn.
Row 2: ch 3 (counts as a dc here and throughout), 2 dc in same st, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in ch 2 sp, 3 dc in last st. Turn.
Row 3: ch 3, 2 dc in same st, work 3 dc into each space between 3-dc clusters from previous row to ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) into ch-2 sp, work 3 dc into each space between 3-dc clusters from previous row to end, 3 dc in last st,
Repeat row 3 to desired length.
Weave in ends with tapestry needle and block shawl.
Optional: add tassels or fringe with any leftover yarn.
