Flower Granny Hexagon

This flower granny hexagon is a mashup of a hexagon granny square and a flower based off of a sunburst granny square. You will need 4 colors of yarn, but can use as many as you like. This is a great stashbusting project for small quanities of yarn leftover from other projects.

Materials:

Yarn (4 colors)

Crochet hook

Scissors

Tapestry needle



Abbreviations (US Terms):

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

hdc: half double crochet

sl-st: slip stitch

sp: space

st/sts: stitch/stitches


Special Stitches:

Puff Stitch: yarn over, insert the hook and pull up a long loop 3 times, (7 loops on the hook) yarn over and pull through all 7 loops, ch1 to close the top of the puff.

3 dc-cl (3 double crochet cluster): yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, repeat 2 more times (4 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 4 loops

4 dc-cl (4 double crochet cluster): yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through 2 loops, repeat 3 more times (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all 5 loops



Flower Granny Hexagon Instructions

With Color A, ch 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring OR make a magic circle.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc into ring, join with a sl-st in top of ch-3. Fasten off. [12 sts]

Round 2: join with Color B in any st, ch 2, puff stitch in each st to end, join with a sl-st in top of first puff st. Fasten off. [12 puff sts]

Round 3: join with Color C in the space between any puff st, ch 3, 3 dc-cl in same st, ch 2, (4 dc-cl, ch 2) in each sp between puffs to end, join with a sl-st in top of first cluster st. Fasten off. [12 cluster sts]

Round 4: join with Color D in any of the ch-2 sps, (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, 3 hdc in next sp, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next sp, 3 hdc in next sp; repeat from * to end, join with a sl-st in top of beginning ch-3. [42 sts, 6 corners (ch-2 sps)]

Additional rounds: sl-st over to next ch-2 sp if using same color OR join with new color in any ch-2 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same sp, 3 dc in each sp to next corner, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next corner, 3 dc in each sp to next corner; repeat from * to end.
