Materials:

Yarn (4 colors minimum)

Crochet hook


Abbreviations (US Terms):

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

sc: single crochet

sp: space

sl-st: slip stitch

st/sts: stitch/stitches



Special Stitches

Long sc: long single crochet - insert hook into space 2 rounds below and pull up a long loop (2 loops on the hook), yarn over and pull through 2 loops.


Crochet African Flower Hexagon Instructions

With color A, ch 4 and join with a sl-st to form a ring.

Round 1: ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc into ring, ch1, *2dc, ch 1; repeat from * four more times, join with a sl-st in the top of first ch-3 and fasten off.

Round 2: join with Color B in any ch-1 sp, (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 1) into sp, *skip to next ch-1 sp, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc, ch 1) in ch-sp; repeat from * to end, join with a sl-st in top of first ch-3. Do not fasten off.

Round 3: sl-st over to next ch-2 sp, ch 3, 6 dc in ch-2 sp, ch 1, *skip to next ch-2 sp, (7dc, ch 1), in ch-sp, repeat from * to end, join with a sl-st in top of first ch-3 by pulling through with Color C.

Round 4: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 6 sts, long sc in next sp (2 rounds below), *sc in next 7 sts, long sc in next sp; repeat from * to end, join with a sl-st in top of first sc by pulling through with Color D.

Round 5: ch 3, dc in next 2 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next st, dc in next 7 sts, (dc, ch 2, dc) in next st; repeat from * to last 4 sts, dc to end and join with a sl-st in top of first ch-3.

You may add additional border rounds as follows: ch 3, *dc in each st to next ch-2 sp, (dc, ch-2, dc) in ch sp; repeat from * to last ch-2 sp, then dc to end. Join with a sl-st in top of first ch-3.
