Enjoy playing with color with this Winter fair isle beanie! Mix and match solids, variegated yarns, or stripes of color. 

Winter Fair Isle Beanie

Materials: 

Worsted weight yarn: 100 yards main color, 50 yards contrast color

Size 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needles 16"

Size 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needles 16"

Size 8 (5mm) double pointed needles

Stitch markers

Tapestry needle

Gauge: 

18 stitches / 24 rows = 4 in /10 cm in brioche stitch 


Finished Size: 

10" height / 21" circumference 

Abbreviations

k; knit

k2tog: knit 2 together

p: purl

ssk: slip, slip, knit

st/sts: stitch/stitches

Instructions:

Setup:

Cast on 96 stitches. Making sure not to twist the stitches, join needles for working in the round and attach a stitch marker to mark the round beginning.

Brim:

Round 1: k1, p1; repeat from to end of round

Repeat Round 1 until work measures 1.5 inches. 

Hat Body:

Work the chart below, repeating 6 times total. 

On the final round, place 4 stitch markers every 24 stitches

Hat Crown: 

Switch to double pointed needles as it becomes necessary. 

Decrease round: *k2tog, k to 2 sts, before marker, ssk; repeat to end.

Work one decrease round followed by one round without decreases 4 times.

Work decrease rounds until you have 8 stitches left. Break yarn, weave yarn through remaining stitches and close off the hat. Block and weave in all loose ends.
